Controls and Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer – Renewables - Field based - South Region

About the role 

As an expert in Control and Instrumentation and SCADA systems, you will be responsible for the safe maintenance of control and instrumentation system hardware and software. You will perform complex fault-finding, trouble shooting, repair, install, modifying, and upgrades on a range of electrical/electronic controls, and instrumentation systems across our range of site-based power generation plants and monitoring equipment.

This is a field-based role covering sites based in the Warwickshire, Bedfordshire, Norfolk, Essex, and Kent area.

Job outline

  • Manage and organise planned and reactive maintenance of electrical infrastructure monitoring systems to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our sites
     
  • This includes a range of Instrumentation, (Flow, Pressure, Level and Temperature Sensors), along with Gas Analysers, PLC Systems, HMI’s & Telemetry Systems
     
  • Troubleshoot and repair defective systems, utilising and managing trusted contractors
     
  • Ensure a root cause analysis of major breakdowns providing accurate documentation
     
  • Create written daily updates on programmes, issues & actions monthly updates
     
  • Supporting the roll out of DSEAR remedial works / periodic inspections
     
  • Producing reports and data input into Maximo and other IT based systems
     
  • To provide effective leadership and development of the regional C&I Technician
     
  • Ensuring all works are conducted in line with our Health & Safety policies and procedures.

What you will bring to the role

  • Knowledge of generation plant, electrical control and PID control systems
     
  • LV Electrical control panels and safe electrical isolation procedures
     
  • Fault finding and diagnostics skills on LV control circuits and instrument Loops
  • PLC programming, including Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Schneider, or Siemens
     
  • Experience of interrogating, fault finding and maintenance of HMI, SCADA, PLC & Telemetry systems, Flow, pressure, level & temperature sensors
     
  • Communication Networks, Converters & Protocols, including Ethernet, CAN-Bus, Profibus, RS232/485 Serial, Fiber Optics
     
  • Safety focussed with a commercial consideration for system performance
     
  • Ability to prioritise and capable of multi-tasking, working to agreed schedules and be commercially aware in engineering solutions
     
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

Qualifications

  • HND/HNC qualified (or equivalent) in in Electrical, or Controls / Instrumentation Engineering
  • IET 18th Edition Wiring Reg’s, City & Guilds 2382
     
  • CompEx Foundation, or CompEx 01 to 04 would be an advantage
     
  • Knowledge of Emergency Shutdown / Safety Systems, Machinery or Process related
     
  • Knowledge of IT Networks & PC based systems
     
  • Full UK Driving License.
