Proposals for a new solar park in Essex have been given the green light by Thurrock Council.

On 9 July 2024, the council gave consent for Infinis to build and operate a solar park on restored landfill at Aveley, South Ockendon.

When completed, the new site will export up to 17,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable electricity – enough to power around 4,200 homes.

Infinis will also plant native hedgerows and improve grass quality on site, to support a more diverse habitat for local wildlife.

Jason McGray, Infinis’ head of development said: “We are delighted that Aveley solar park has received the go-ahead.

“Our business already captures methane on the site, to generate low-carbon power. Adding the solar park above ground means we can make good use of existing infrastructure and increase the amount of clean energy produced locally.”

Aveley solar park is the latest partnership project involving Infinis and FCC Environment. The partners’ first project was completed at Winterton in 2023. Work is now nearing completion on the Boston and Offham solar park sites, with a range of further projects progressing through the development pipeline.
