Infinis today announces that Shane Pickering will retire as Chief Executive Officer. Bruce Heppenstall, currently Plant Director at Drax Group, will step into the role to lead the company’s next phase of growth.
Shane has been at the heart of Infinis since 2015, initially as Director of Operations and then, following the acquisition by 3i Infrastructure, as CEO from 2016. Over nearly a decade, he has overseen significant growth and diversification, strengthened the company’s position in renewable energy, and driven forward key sustainability initiatives, developing Infinis into a diversified renewable energy platform which is playing a key role in the UK’s transition to Net Zero.
Under Shane’s leadership, Infinis has expanded its core operations of capturing methane and converting it into low-carbon renewable electricity. The business has also diversified, first into Flexible Generation and, more recently, into Solar, while successfully developing a 1.4GW pipeline of future projects - further strengthening Infinis’ role in the clean energy transition.
“Leading Infinis has been an incredible experience, and I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together,” said Shane Pickering “I want to thank our fantastic team for their unwavering dedication and commitment as well as to the board members and 3i Infrastructure for their invaluable contributions in making Infinis a leader in renewable energy. As I transition, I am confident that Bruce will carry forward this legacy and continue delivering the Infinis success story."
Bruce brings a wealth of experience from Drax Group, where he has led large-scale energy operations and played a key role in the company’s decarbonisation strategy. With an engineering background and deep expertise in energy infrastructure, Bruce is well placed to build on Infinis’ strong foundation and drive innovation in renewable energy.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to Shane for his leadership and the lasting impact he has made at Infinis,” said Tony Cocker, Infinis Chair. “His vision and dedication have shaped our journey, and we wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement. We’re excited to welcome Bruce, whose experience and leadership will take Infinis forward into a new chapter of growth and progress.”
Bruce commented: “I’m honoured to join Infinis at such an exciting time for the renewable energy sector. Shane has built a strong, forward-thinking organisation, and I look forward to working with the team to continue delivering low-carbon energy solutions that make a real impact.”
The transition will take place on 2 June 2025, ensuring a seamless handover and continued focus on delivering the business strategy.
