Local MP Lizzi Collinge visited the Infinis Centre of Excellence this week to see the cutting-edge work being done to support the UK’s renewable energy transition. The Centre, based in Morecambe, is a national hub for overhauling and reconditioning engines used in landfill gas and methane capture operations across Infinis’ 110+ sites.
The facility employs 25 highly skilled staff across two dedicated engineering workshops, where engines are disassembled, repaired, rebuilt, and tested to ensure optimal performance. These engines are critical to Infinis’ mission of converting methane from landfill gas into electricity - reducing emissions and supporting the UK’s net zero goals.
“Infinis is doing incredible work right here in our region. It’s inspiring to see how innovation and sustainability go hand in hand, and how skilled local jobs are being created in the process.” Said Lizzi Collinge MP.
The Centre’s work spans a range of specialist functions, including full engine overhauls, part reconditioning, and on-site commissioning support. By insourcing technical expertise, the team refurbishes engines and components to extend their lifespan, reduce costs, and improve sustainability. A central logistics hub ensures parts and equipment are efficiently managed and delivered to support operations across Infinis’ UK sites.
Bruce Heppenstall, CEO at Infinis, added: “We were delighted to welcome Lizzi and showcase the vital work our team does. The Centre is a key part of our mission to deliver low carbon power while investing in local talent and innovation.”
The visit highlights the role of local industry in providing good jobs and driving national progress towards Clean Power 2030.
