California Clean Energy Hub

California Solar Park is a major new solar and battery project near Stockton-on-Tees, supporting green growth and stronger energy security in the North East. The development combines 70MWp of solar generation with 100 MW of battery storage to follow at a later date. This site will provide enough to power around 25,000 homes a year and save approximately 10,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually over its 40-year life. 

Delivered with EPC partner Greenvolt Next under a secured Contract for Difference, California is a practical example of Infinis’ delivery model: taking consented, grid-secured projects through construction and into operation. It will bring genuinely new renewable capacity online with long-term revenue certainty, rather than simply adding to the pipeline. 

By pairing solar with battery storage, the project will generate zero-carbon electricity when the sun shines and store power for when demand peaks or the grid needs support. This reflects Infinis’ proven approach: building and operating clean energy assets that are flexible, dependable and ready to support the UK’s lower-carbon energy system. 

Local legacy: jobs, community fund and nature

Beyond the clean power it generates, California is built to leave a lasting mark on the community that hosts it. From the local jobs and supply-chain activity created during construction, the project is designed to deliver value that endures well beyond the day it switches on. 

Delivered with Greenvolt Next, supports activity across civil works, electrical installation, construction management, ecology and ongoing operations, extending supply-chain value into the local area and supporting 35 jobs during construction. 

A £150,000 community fund, independently managed by GrantScape, will invest directly in local projects, helping California deliver lasting value for the surrounding community. 

California is designed to leave the land richer than it found it: an estimated 250% biodiversity net gain (470 BNG units) through tussock grassland beneath the panels, species-rich meadow grassland at the margins, new native woodland and hedgerows forming internal wildlife corridors, and 16 new bird boxes, all maintained across the project’s 40-year life.
