Engine Overhauls & Repairs

Infinis’ Lancaster Centre of Excellence is the engineering hub helping to maintain and improve our distributed generation fleet across the UK.

Operating from two facilities and employing a team of 26 skilled professionals, the Centre supports our captured methane and flexible generation operations through engine overhaul, component reconditioning, commissioning, logistics and operational improvement projects.

Extending the life of our generating assets

Our Lancaster engineers complete major engine overhauls for generating assets across the Infinis fleet. Engines are stripped down, inspected, rebuilt and commissioned to meet demanding performance and reliability standards.

By developing this expertise in-house, we can extend the working life of critical equipment, reduce reliance on overseas suppliers and respond more quickly when sites need support.

The Centre also refurbishes and reconditions engine components that might otherwise need to be replaced. During FY26, more than 8,000 parts were refurbished and returned to service, helping to reduce waste, control costs and strengthen the resilience of our supply chain.

Keeping our national operations moving

Lancaster is more than an engine workshop. Its Central Stores and Logistics team manages the supply of new and reconditioned parts to sites across the country, including daily deliveries and rapid support following equipment failures.

The Centre’s Operational Projects team also delivers improvements across our captured methane and flexible generation fleets. Its work includes installing appropriately sized engines, upgrading controllers and cooling systems, improving site efficiency and redeploying generating equipment between sites.

Together, these services help maintain asset availability, improve operational resilience and support reliable generation across Infinis’ diverse portfolio.

Building engineering skills in Lancaster

The Centre of Excellence supports skilled engineering, logistics and technical roles in Lancaster while creating routes into the energy sector for the next generation.

Through apprenticeship partnerships with Kendal College and Lancaster & Morecambe College, apprentices combine academic learning with practical experience across the Centre’s operations. Two apprentices are currently developing their careers at Lancaster, while three permanent members of the team originally joined through an apprenticeship.

By investing in people alongside new engineering capabilities, the Centre is helping to build a lasting skills legacy for Lancaster and the wider North West.

The Centre of Excellence brings together the engineering expertise, facilities and people needed to support Infinis’ generation assets across the UK. From overhauling and reconditioning engines to managing critical parts and delivering improvement projects across our landfill gas, coal mine methane and Power Response fleets, our work helps keep generation running reliably while developing the people, skills and in-house capabilities we will need for the future.
