Offham Clean Energy Hub

Offham Clean Energy Hub turns a closed landfill in Kent into a productive green asset, delivering 10WM of clean power, new habitat and public access on land that cannot host other development. 

Built on former landfill in partnership with waste management company FCC Environment, the solar park generates around 11,000 MWh of renewable electricity each year, enough to power roughly 2,700 homes, while supporting green growth and stronger energy security.

From landfill liability to clean energy hub 

A closed landfill is not simply walked away from. Buried waste continues to decompose for decades, and the site needs careful long-term management to keep it safe for the environment and the local community. Rather than leaving Offham as a passive liability, Infinis and FCC Environment are putting it back to work: generating zero-carbon solar power, enhancing the land for wildlife and opening it to the public for the first time. It is a practical example of the energy transition in action, turning a legacy cost into lasting local benefit. 

By generating zero-carbon electricity on a site with no alternative use, the hub reduces reliance on imported energy and helps guard against volatile prices, strengthening security of supply while making best use of already industrialised land. 

Local legacy: jobs, community fund and nature

Beyond the clean power it generates, Offham is designed to leave a lasting mark on the community that hosts it. From the local jobs and supply-chain activity created during construction, to new public access across the site, to a former landfill managed for nature, the project turns a closed waste site into a lasting local asset. 

The construction programme supports skilled activity across civil works, electrical installation, ecology and grid connection, channelling opportunity and supply-chain value into the local area.  

A new public right of way is being installed across the site, opening up access to land that was previously closed and giving the local community a direct, lasting benefit from the development. Read more about our impacts on the community here.  

On a former landfill, Offham is designed to leave the land richer than it found it: enhancing grassland condition by increasing plant species and meadow height and encouraging lower-growing flowering species, planting 16 new standard trees, adding around 200 m of new hedgerow and improving the quality of around 1.3 km of existing hedgerow, creating better habitat and connectivity for local wildlife.
