Infinis‘ first battery energy storage system is now operational at Taylor Road in Trafford Park, Manchester, supporting a more flexible, resilient and lower-carbon electricity system for the UK.
Built on a brownfield former factory site, it offers 16 MW of power and 24 MWh of storage, enough to discharge at full output for around 90 minutes, storing electricity and releasing it to the grid when it’s needed most.
As the UK draws more power from wind and solar, generation varies with the weather and time of day while demand shifts across the day. Battery storage helps balance this, storing electricity and making it available quickly when the grid needs support.
With 16 MW of power and 24 MWh of storage, Taylor Road responds fast to balance supply and demand, support grid stability and make better use of low-carbon power.
The project marks an important milestone in the growth of Infinis’ flexible power portfolio. It builds on our long-standing experience developing and managing distributed energy assets across the UK, a natural extension of our engineering, construction and operational expertise.
Developing on a former factory site in Trafford Park made efficient use of an existing industrial location. Works included the Distribution Network Operator building, perimeter fencing and security gates, electrical ducting and access road improvements. The site now operates safely and securely within an established commercial and industrial setting.
The project supported activity across civil engineering, electrical installation, construction management, health and safety, security and specialist battery technology, while extending Infinis’ established supplier relationships into a new part of our portfolio.
