Turning landfill methane into reliable renewable power
As waste breaks down in landfill sites, it produces methane gas, a powerful greenhouse gas that would otherwise escape into the atmosphere. We capture that gas through a network of wells and pipes installed across the site.
The methane is then cleaned and used to fuel engines that generate electricity for the UK grid and businesses. By capturing and using the gas safely, we reduce emissions while producing reliable, low-carbon power.
Unlike weather-dependent renewables, landfill gas generation can operate around the clock, helping to support a more resilient energy system.
Capturing methane from former coal mines
Even after coal mines close, methane can continue to escape from underground workings for decades. If released into the atmosphere, this methane contributes significantly to climate change.
We capture the gas through specialist boreholes and pipework before safely using it to generate electricity. This helps reduce harmful emissions while making use of existing infrastructure and former industrial sites.
Captured mineral methane provides a practical way to manage legacy emissions while supporting the UK’s transition to lower-carbon energy.
