UK renewable energy generator Infinis has announced the energisation of two new solar energy parks totalling 92.0MWp.

The projects at Litchardon, Devon (60.3MWp) and Bishampton, Worcestershire (31.6MWp) feature 178,000 ground-mounted solar photovoltaic modules, set on fixed-tilt structures.

The projects received Contracts for Difference in Allocation Round 4, ensuring they provide clean, low-cost energy to power almost 25,000 homes.

Through woodland planting and the enhancement of grassland and hedgerows, Infinis anticipates a biodiversity net gain of more than 20 per cent. At Litchardon, former cattle grazing land will be reopened beneath and between the solar panels – enabling the landowners to graze sheep on the site.

Infinis will also contribute funding towards social, environmental, and educational projects in local communities throughout the project lifetime.

Utility-scale solar developer IB Vogt acted as the principal contractor, with Ethical Power Connections delivering the connection to the electricity grid. DNV acted as Technical Advisor and Statkraft will provide the Power Purchase Agreements.

Shane Pickering, Chief Executive Officer at Infinis, said: “These solar energy parks represent an important milestone in our strategy to deliver 1GW of new solar and battery projects over the coming years.

“The success of these projects is attributable to the close working relationship between our in-house development team and experienced project partners. Solar is an important building block in achieving the UK’s transition to net zero and lowering the cost of energy to the consumer and is central to our business strategy.”
